Week 2 Reflection on Massimo Vignelli

I’ve never heard of this person before. To me, he really represents the classic American Dream. He came from a different country, worked hard to get into University, gained a scholarship to come to America and proceeded to have a very successful career. The most fascinating thing he did in my opinion is that he created the New York City Subway map. Which blows my mind because in order for someone to create a map like this and have everyone understand Subways complex systems is really incredible. He really used colors, textures, and shapes to really represent this, he truly was an amazing man.

  1. Hello! I would love to hear a bit more of your thoughts of Vignelli. Him and his wife started their own company which was based around Modernism and Minimalism. From browsing through your blog, I see you take a lot of what they represented! He was also the creator of the Helvetica font, how do you think one is able to process the creation of a font? He produced the movie before he passed away, I’ll link it at the end of this post, it’s a really easy watch even when cooking or cleaning. I’d love to hear what you think!

I was able to watch the movie, and it was really interesting! I was amazed when I learned that the Helvetica font is the same font that brands like Target use. It’s a font that I never realized how much it’s used all over the world every single day. Thank you so much for the link to the movie!
